D2D Game Club: Dead Space 2 Chapter 2
Leading up towards the end of Chapter 1, Isaac found himself in the midst of yet another Necromorphs break-out. Disoriented and for a brief period tied-down, Isaac still found a way to arm himself and get back into his trusty engineer’s suit. A few survivors offered aid, one via direct radio communications and the other in vague hints only someone with mental issues could provide. Not being the type to pass up on help, Isaac sets off to find a way out of the madness around him.
Chapter 1 served as a great introduction to the world of Dead Space 2. Highlighting the new game engine nicely and immediately showcasing the new story-telling approach. Unlike the first game, Isaac now has a voice and personality, alongside some familiar gear. Chapter 2 starts off right after you dispatch a brute necromorph. Your destination is the Trans network to escape the immediate danger of the medical area you awoke in.
Obviously, the narrative takes center stage and chaos around the player tells an even better story. Walking through the dormitory rooms with your flashlight serving as your main source of light, one can’t help but take in the tragedy that over came so many innocent lives. Yet you’re forced to push it aside and focus on the greater task of survival. Not to mention getting the first taste of the action pieces that lay in wait. Being inside a train right in the middle of it crashing is just pure adrenaline in video game form.
What did you guys take away from Chapter 2? Did the intensity level wind down since the opening or has the pacing delivered. Sound off in the comment section.
